The following images were created for an artist's book that detailed, chronologically all of the movies I have seen since the year 2002, which is the year I recieved my driver's license, and ending in the year 2005, which is when I came up with the idea for the book. As with records, I whole-heartedly enjoy collecting and organizing material objects of various concerns. Thus, whenever I see a movie in the theatre, I have a tendency to keep the ticket stub and file it away safely with the other ticket stubs. It's a simple idea, and a simple pleasure. The tickets have all the information needed to tell a story... date, time of purchase, movie title, theatre name, city, screening time, cost of ticket, etc. Take all of this information, add the wear n' tear of time, and you've got yourself a relic of cinema's past! However, the real show begins when looking at all of these tickets as a sequence, and how they begin to tell a story... the story of a person, their taste in movies, and the changing styles and prices of the movie theatre experience... This idea was a pre-cursor to the record cover project, in that, it helped push me to further examine the textures, rips, production processes and design of my favorite personal possessions. |
